Introduction: Why This Book Exists

Scripture is clear: a time of unprecedented tribulation is coming.

"For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been from the beginning of the world until now, no, and never will be" (Matthew 24:21).

Jesus did not say if tribulation comes but when. He did not promise escape but endurance: "But the one who endures to the end will be saved" (Matthew 24:13).

The book of Revelation describes a system where no one can buy or sell without the mark of the beast (Revelation 13:16-17). Those who refuse the mark will face economic exclusion, persecution, and death. Many will be "beheaded for the testimony of Jesus" (Revelation 20:4).

This is not speculation. This is Scripture.

This book exists because these realities demand preparation.

The Purpose

This book exists to prepare believers to endure.

Not to escape. Many Western Christians have been taught that they'll be removed before tribulation arrives. This book takes a different view—the historic view of the early church—that believers go through tribulation, not around it. We prepare accordingly.

Not to fight. Our weapons are not carnal but spiritual (2 Corinthians 10:4). This is not a call to armed rebellion or violent resistance. Martyrdom may be our calling. We prepare for faithfulness, not military victory.

Not to merely survive. The goal is not physical survival at any cost. Plenty of survival manuals exist for those whose primary concern is staying alive. This book assumes something different: that faithfulness matters more than survival, that there are things worth dying for, that eternal reward outweighs temporal preservation.

To endure. To remain faithful under pressure. To stand firm when everything demands compromise. To finish the race set before us, whether that race ends in natural death or martyrdom.

"Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus" (Revelation 14:12).

That's the call. This book is preparation to answer it.

The Theological Foundation

This book is built on specific theological convictions. You should know them upfront.

The Divine Council Worldview. this book understands that God presides over a council of spiritual beings (Psalm 82:1), that some of these beings rebelled and were assigned to rule the nations at Babel (Deuteronomy 32:8-9), and that spiritual warfare involves these territorial powers (Ephesians 6:12). Christ's victory has legally defeated them, but they remain active until final judgment. This framework provides clarity about what we face: not merely human opposition but cosmic spiritual warfare.

Historic Premillennialism. This was the eschatology of the early church fathers—the view that Christ returns after tribulation, not before it. The pre-tribulation rapture, now dominant in American evangelicalism, emerged in the 1830s. For eighteen centuries, believers prepared to endure tribulation, not escape it. This book returns to that preparation.

The Theodicy of Love. this book understands that God allows suffering not from weakness or indifference but because love requires freedom, and freedom permits rebellion. The conflict over God's character must be settled before the watching universe. Believers who endure faithfully participate in answering Satan's accusations against God.

Biblical Endurance Theology. The Greek word hypomonē—translated "endurance" or "steadfastness"—appears throughout the New Testament as the defining mark of genuine faith. It means remaining under pressure rather than escaping it, active perseverance rather than passive resignation, faithfulness regardless of outcome.

These convictions shape everything in these pages.

What This Book Is

A theological resource grounded in Scripture, not speculation. Every principle is anchored in biblical text. The endnotes aren't decoration—they're the foundation.

A practical guide providing actionable preparation—spiritual, psychological, and physical. Theology that doesn't translate into practice isn't useful when persecution comes.

A community tool designed to be studied together. Isolated individuals will not survive what's coming. This book assumes you'll read it with others, discuss it with others, prepare with others.

A training document preparing believers before crisis, not during it. You don't learn to fight when the battle has already started. You train beforehand. This is training.

A balanced approach combining spiritual dependence with practical wisdom. Nehemiah prayed AND posted guards (Nehemiah 4:9). We do both.

What This Book Is Not

Not a prophecy chart attempting to predict exact dates or sequences. No one knows the day or hour. Attempts to calculate timelines have failed repeatedly and discredited legitimate preparation. This book focuses on readiness, not prediction.

Not a survivalist manual focused on physical survival above faithfulness. Survivalism without faith becomes idolatry of self-preservation. We prepare to survive if possible, but we prepare to be faithful regardless.

Not a call to violence. The early church conquered the Roman Empire without drawing a sword. They conquered through witness, through love, through faithfulness unto death. Our warfare is spiritual. Armed rebellion is not the path.

Not a guarantee of survival. Faithfulness, not physical preservation, is the goal. Many who prepare well will still die for their faith. Preparation increases options; it doesn't guarantee outcomes. Only faithfulness is promised to be rewarded.

Not a substitute for Scripture. This book points to the Bible; the Bible is the authority. If anything here contradicts Scripture, Scripture wins. Read your Bible more than you read this book.

Who This Book Is For

Believers who take Scripture seriously—who believe tribulation is coming and want to prepare rather than assume rescue.

Those willing to count the cost—who understand that faithfulness may require everything and have decided Christ is worth it.

Community builders—who recognize that no one endures alone and are committed to building relationships that can withstand pressure.

Those seeking balance—who want both theological depth and practical application, who refuse the false choice between spirituality and preparation.

The teachable—who are willing to learn, prepare, and train others for what's coming.

If that's you, keep reading.

The Call

The early church faced lions, fire, and sword. They endured.

The persecuted church today—in North Korea, Iran, China, Nigeria, and elsewhere—faces imprisonment, torture, and death. They endure.

We may face the same. Will we endure?

This book is preparation for that question. Not a guarantee of the right answer—that comes from Christ alone, through grace alone. But preparation: theological grounding to understand what's happening and why. Spiritual disciplines to sustain faith under pressure. Psychological tools to guard the mind. Physical preparation to live outside controlled systems. Community structures to support each other. And hope—hope anchored in promises that outlast any tribulation.

The crown of life awaits those who are faithful unto death.

May this book serve those who will need it.

May God grant us grace to endure.

"Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life." — Revelation 2:10
